Our History

Joe and Marie Thompson moved to Bristol road in Churchville, PA during the summer of 1954.

While in Churchville, the Thompson house became the gathering place for all the neighborhood children. Marie, at the time, was a stay at home mom and spent her time seven days a week entertaining the neighborhood children at her house.

Many times during these gatherings Joe and Marie’s neighbors would tell Marie that she should open her own business caring for children. At this time in the late 1950’s there were no licensed day care centers in Bucks County.

When Joe and Marie became aware that the Our Lady of Good Counsel convent at 615 Belmont Avenue in Southampton had been listed for sale they decided to take the risk and open a business that had no blue print or business plan to follow. They had no “franchises” at the time. They were going to have to be the pioneers in providing child care services in Bucks County. They became the first PA state licensed day care center in bucks county and rumor has it the entire State of Pennsylvania.

After 60 years in business Jolly Tots has cared for and educated well over 1,500 children from throughout the tri-county area.

Jolly Tots now cares for and educates the children and grandchildren of many of our original students and continues to take pride in providing the safest and highest quality child care services at an affordable price for our parents.
